Windham Mountain is nestled in the Catskill Mountains and was opened as a resort in the 1960s. Last year, Hurricane Irene flooded upstate New York and caused massive damage to the lodge, trails, and much of the area, requiring cleanup and rebuilding. From an outsider’s perspective, the surrounding area appears to have rebounded.

The course began in downtown Windham, and riders then ascended the mountain and rode back down through many rocky sections (which caused numerous flats and rider mishaps) for a three-plus mile lap. The women’s elite and men’s U-23 (Under 23) races totaled five laps (16-plus miles), while the men’s elite race was six laps (21-plus miles).
