It's What Makes a Subaru, a Subaru:
EyeSight - An Innovative Look Ahead

The revolutionary Subaru EyeSight1 driver assist system gives the driver a second set of eyes.

The EyeSight system includes stereo cameras mounted on either side of the interior rearview mirror that continuously scan the road ahead. The system processes the images from the two cameras to identify vehicles, obstacles, traffic lanes, and other objects in front of the car.

Subaru chose cameras rather than the front-mounted radar or laser units found in competitive systems. Cameras offer the advantage of readily recognizing cars, trucks, people, motorcycles, bicycles, and some taller animals. Plus, they are not subject to the dents and dings that bumper- or grille-mounted units like traditional radar and laser sensors must endure. Such daily hazards can cause expensive repairs.

1 EyeSight is a driver assist system which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance and weather and road conditions. See Owner’s Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations.
