On July 13, my wife and I took part in a historic Subaru moment. We were in one of the 371 Subaru vehicles that officially set a new record for the world’s longest Subaru parade, certified by Guinness World Records™.
I wanted to write as a proud participant in the event and talk about the people who took part with us. They drove the 371 vehicles to Itasca, Illinois, from 13 states – as far away as Massachusetts.
The warmth of the day was more due to the conviviality of the participants than the weather. We enjoyed each other’s company and that of their pets – especially the dogs in attendance. There was a strong sense of community.
Parade participants together with Subaru donated to two featured charities – PAWS® Chicago and Salute, Inc.

The Outback is on a bluff above Lake Michigan, near Frankfort, Michigan. The lighthouse in the distance is for small to midsize ships entering and exiting Betsie Bay.

After hitting some golf balls at Cascade Golf Center driving range in Saco, Maine, I noticed an older car used to collect the golf balls. After taking a closer look and asking the owner, I found out more information. The gentlemen bought the 1990 Subaru Loyale six years ago for $300 after it was deemed a total loss after a rear-end collision. He said he can’t kill the car.

Subaru vehicles have become a tradition in my family. Being from eastern Ohio, their all-wheel drive really helps getting through the hills in the winter. I now live in Michigan, where the all-wheel drive is a necessity.
The 2012 Outback is mine. The Legacy is my parents’ car. The older Outback is my younger brother’s. And the 1999 Legacy is my younger sister’s car. One of my five dogs loves her Outback so much that she posed herself in the picture!
