Protecting National Treasures
As we approach the 100-year anniversary of the National Park Service (NPS) in 2016, Subaru of America, Inc. is taking action to help keep these majestic places going strong for the next century and beyond.
Subaru will help reduce landfill waste from the parks by sharing its knowledge of zero-landfill practices with the NPS.
"We are delighted to be able to share Subaru’s expertise with our national parks. Subaru owners are passionate national park visitors and we are very pleased that we can make a positive contribution to a resource we all treasure," said Thomas J. Doll, president and COO of Subaru of America.
This sustainability initiative builds upon Subaru of America’s multi-year partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association. Read more in Drive.

Weird finds included a safe door, vintage laundry basket, VW fender and an old metal lock box. One week later, 40 volunteers descended upon the Jordan River in Salt Lake City, UT, earlier this month and removed 531 pounds of trash.

Back to School: 6 Rules for the Road
AAA’s School’s Open – Drive Carefully awareness campaign offers these tips to help drivers keep kids safe:
| 1. ||Slow down. Speed limits in school zones are reduced for a reason. A pedestrian struck by a vehicle traveling at 25 mph is nearly two-thirds less likely to be killed compared to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle traveling just 10 mph faster.|
| 2. ||Come to a complete stop. Research shows that more than one-third of drivers roll through stop signs in school zones or neighborhoods. Always come to a complete stop, checking carefully for children on sidewalks and in crosswalks before proceeding.|
| 3. ||Eliminate distractions. Research shows taking your eyes off the road for just two seconds doubles your chances of crashing. Children can be quick, crossing the road unexpectedly or emerging suddenly between two parked cars. Reduce risk by not using your cell phone or eating while driving, for example.|
| 4. ||Reverse responsibly. Every vehicle has blind spots. Check for children on the sidewalk, in the driveway and around your vehicle before slowly backing up. Teach your children to never play in, under or around vehicles.|
| 5. ||Watch for bicycles. Children on bikes are often inexperienced, unsteady and unpredictable. Slow down and allow at least three feet of passing distance between your vehicle and a bicyclist. If your child rides a bicycle to school, require that he or she wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet on every ride.|
| 6. ||Talk to your teen. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States, and nearly one in four fatal crashes involving teen drivers occurs during the after-school hours of 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. |
