The most significant changes in the Outback and Legacy improve safety, enhance styling, and increase comfort.
The addition of Harman Kardon components to Outback and Legacy audio systems raises their sound experiences to levels usually found in luxury automobiles. The Harman Kardon Premium Audio system includes speakers, amplifier, and modifications to the audio head unit. They provide greater emphasis on bass and less harmonic distortion across the frequency range. The system also includes vehicle speed-sensitive Auto Volume Control and Harman Kardon badging.
The Harman Kardon Premium Audio system is standard in these Subaru Outback and Legacy vehicles:
- Outback 2.5i with Premium Package
- Outback 2.5i Limited
- All Outback 2.5XT models
- All Outback 3.0R models
- Legacy 2.5i with Premium Package
- Legacy 2.5i Limited
- All Legacy 2.5GT models
- All Legacy 3.0R models
For 2009, the Subaru stability control system – Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) – is standard on all Outback and Legacy models except the Legacy 2.5GT Limited with five-speed manual transmission. The system helps to prevent skidding due to understeer or oversteer by managing individual wheel braking and/or reducing engine power to correct the slide. This system adds to driver control of the vehicle, improving active safety.
For more about VDC, see the Online Exclusives about the system in the “2008 Subaru Impreza” article in Fall 2007 Drive.
Think green and red – specifically, Seacrest Green Metallic and Ruby Red Pearl. Select 2009 models in both the Outback and Legacy lines are available in Seacrest Green Metallic, and select 2009 Legacy models are available in Ruby Red Pearl.
Other changes for 2009 include:
- Steering-wheel audio controls standard on all Outback Limited models, Legacy 3.0R, and all Legacy Limited models
- Dark tint privacy glass standard on all Outback Limited models
