Teach For America joins the roster of five worthy national organizations and a local one designated by the retailer that were selected for the Subaru “Share the Love” event. For every Subaru sold November 21, 2013, through January 2, 2014, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer’s choice of one of the charities.
Teach For America recruits, trains, and develops top college graduates and professionals to commit to teach for at least two years in low-income communities and become lifelong leaders in efforts to expand educational opportunities. In the 2013-14 school year, more than 11,000 corps members are teaching in high-need classrooms in 48 regions that span 35 states and the District of Columbia.
“Given our deep belief in the potential of all children, we’re proud to be partnering with communities across the country to expand educational opportunity for students facing the challenges of poverty. This year, our teachers, alongside other educators and families, are reaching more than 750,000 children,” said Teach For America Chief Marketing Officer Grant Besser. “Proceeds from Subaru’s ‘Share the Love’ campaign will help support our recruitment efforts as well as the training and ongoing coaching we provide to our 11,000 teachers and our 32,000 alumni.”
The partnership is mutually exciting for Subaru and Teach For America – two organizations dedicated to strengthening communities.
“We both have a shared vision that all kids, no matter what their ZIP code, deserve access to an excellent education,” Besser said. “Today, unfortunately, children in low-income communities do not have access to the same quality of education as their more affluent peers. While closing this educational opportunity gap poses a tremendous challenge, there are hundreds of classrooms and schools across the nation proving this is possible.”
By partnering with Subaru, Teach For America hopes to raise awareness of the issues of educational inequity and, ultimately, grow the number of individuals committed to partnering with and advocating for our highest-needs schools.
