You can make the crown in classic gold or choose another color. Either way, you’ll want to take your recipient’s measurements to ensure the crown is a perfect fit.

Measure circumference of recipient’s head. (In Elle’s case, she created a measurement for multiples of 7, so she chained for 42. You will be working in rounds, connecting by slip stitches and turning chains accordingly.)
To create the base of the crown, half double crochet rows 1 through 4 with chosen number of stitches, adding 2 turning chains at the end of each round.
To create the points of the crown, use simple math. (Since Elle chained multiples of 7, she created 6 points around the base of the crown, matching the 42 stitches in the base.) Create each point separately.
For the points, half double crochet for 7 stitches. At the end of the row, turn work to start a new row of stitches. For the next two rows, decrease the number of stitches. Half double crochet for 5 stitches, turning at the end of each row. Do the same for the following two rows, totaling 3 stitches per row. For the final row, leave only one stitch as the point of the crown. Tie off the last strand.
Next, insert hook into the following stitch after the base of the first point just created. Repeat sequence traveling around the base to create all the points for the crown. After all points are completed, sew in loose strands from each. Reinsert hook to single crochet for one round to finish the look. At the end of the rounds, slip stitch to complete work.
